Waterville
Valley has enough diversity and runs to keep any rider happy for
a least a day. Watervilles trails are not New Englands
typical steep and narrow pistes. Most are wide swaths through the
trees, and theres elbow room and a chance to check out the
slope before committing to the fall line again.
Two former tough mogul runs,
Ciao and Gema, now are groomed daily. Such trails as White Caps,
Old Tecumseh and Tippecanoe are intermediate and advanced playthings.
Upper Bobbys Run is a great intermediate trail, but if you
dont want to find yourself on a black diamond or double-diamond
mogul trail (Lower Bobbys), make sure you take a strong left
to Terrys Trail or Old Tecumseh.
Oblivion, a winding trail
with banked sides, is the trail of choice for many riders. Carvers
head to World Cup. Also popular are Sels Choice and the glades
off True Grit.
If you'd like to get a taste
of riding in the trees, Old T Trees is 4.5
acres of mixed hardwoods and evergreens for intermediates between
the Old Tecumseh trail, Terrys trail, Tyler and Siegel Street.
Parks and pipes
Waterville Valley has three terrain parks, including
one for younger aficionados, a Boarder Cross thats open to
the public, and a 400-foot-long superpipe. Based on the resort's dedication to the freestyle snowboarding scene, Burton Snowboards has selected Waterville Valley as an Eastern site for the latest creative idea in snowboard progression.
The Exhibition Terrain Park & Halfpipe, located
right above the base area, has a 16-foot superpipe, rails, tabletops,
hips, trannies and kickers. The signature rail is a shaped C thats
22 feet long. The Hubba Street Course includes elements such as
stairs and is at the base of Exhibition. While Exhibition has its
own surface lift, if you access the top of the park from Psyched,
youll gain extra hits. Theres a yurt at the parks
summit where you can get warm. Younger kids can train for the big
stuff in their own terrain park, Little Slammer, with minipipe,
smaller tables, rails and boxes. Waterville also has a dedicated
snowskate park next to the Quadzilla lift and an indoor skate ramp
at the base lodge, tucked under the heated deck, with five-foot
miniramp and lighted night sessions. |
