Timberline, Mt. Hood Region, Oregon

Dining

Timberline Lodge has an elegant restaurant, the Cascade Dining Room (left), that serves meals at set times. The salmon and lamb are excellent. The Blue Ox Deli downstairs is sort of a theme bar of Paul Bunyan-proportions, decorated with murals and original glass work by Virginia Vance. Wy'East Lodge has several nice places for lunch.

In Government Camp, Huckleberry Inn has a coffee shop open 24 hours a day, and is the place for a hearty breakfast. Mt. Hood Brew Pub, next to the Mt. Hood Inn, has microbrewed beer, espresso bar, local wines and a pub menu.

In the town of Hood River are several good restaurants, among them Big City Chicks (1302 13th St.) for "healthy foods of the world" such as rum-soaked Bajan chicken and Veggie Enchiladas Mole in polenta tortillas.
