Dining (Area Code 802)

DiningYou never have to leave the Village to eat. For home-baked breakfast treats and giant cookies, try The Green Mountain Deli (644-8851; ext. 1141; $), with fresh-roasted coffee, espresso or cappuccino. Lunch favorites include chili in a bread bowl, spinach salads and made-to-order deli sandwiches.

Riga-Bello's Pizzeria (644-8851;ext. 1142; $–$$) offers daily specials, pizza, salads, calzones and stuffed breads with meat and vegetable fillings—for eating there, taking out or delivery to your condo. The Morse Mountain Grille (644-8851;ext. 1247; $–$$), with a view of the slopes, is open continuously for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including light fare entrees.

The Hearth and Candle (644-8090 $–$$$) is a privately operated restaurant in the Village with a friendly, though more formal, atmosphere. Families are served in the cozy Hearth Room, and couples desiring a quiet atmosphere are escorted upstairs to the adults-only Birch Room. Entrees range from steak and pasta to exotic preparations of fish and game.

Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop, in the Village Lodge, is open daily, serving over 15 flavors of its famous ice cream, low-fat ice cream and sorbet.

Dining Restaurants dot the route between the resort and Jeffersonville, 5 miles away.

Some examples: Stella Notte Restaurant (644-8884; $–$$), across the road from the resort entrance, offers authentic Italian cuisine with a country flair, antipasti, some favorite pastas, stuffed pork chops, grilled shrimp and children's tomatoey favorites.

The Three Mountain Lodge (644-5736; $$) serves an eclectic menu in a classic log-lodge atmosphere. The night we were there, an acoustic blues guitarist provided entertainment.

Angelina’s (644-2011; $–$$) in Cambridge has great pizza, with a thin crust that’s crispy on the bottom, soft on the top and loaded with sauce. Our kids, who consider themselves pizza connoisseurs, gave it an 8 out of 10.

158 Main Restaurant and Bakery (644-8100; $–$$), housed in the historic Windridge Farms Building, has brought nouveau cuisine to the valley. Tasty premise-baked breads surround favorite sandwich stuffings, as well as unexpected pairings of fresh vegetables and meats in hot and cold dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Tuesday-night Snowshoe Adventure Dinner takes adults to the top of Sterling Mountain for a gourmet meal in a cabin lit only by candles, then sends the whole crowd back downhill on snowshoes to work off the calories.
