Lodging (Area Code: 250)

Red Resort Central Reservations can book all travel, lodging and ski packages. Its toll-free number is (877) 969-7669, or call (250) 362-7013 if you are calling from another continent and can't access the toll-free number. We list a few choices, but there are others. Prices at Red Resort are very reasonable, generally less than C$100 per night.

Carolyn's Corner, The Lofts, Copper Chalets, Red Robs and White Wolf Cabins (866-475-4733; $$$–$$$$; left) are luxury condominiums with one to four bedrooms at the base of the mountain. They've all been built in the past few years and include hot tub, full kitchen, heated bathroom floors, pre-ordered groceries, gas fireplaces, garage and full laundry. The condos are ski-in with a short walk to the lifts (just on the other side of the parking lot); if you prefer, take the snowmobile shuttle to the slopes every morning. Red Robs sleep up to four; The Lofts sleep up to six; White Wolf Cabins sleep up to 10; and Carolyn's Corner condos and Copper Chalets sleep up to 12.

The Ram's Head Inn (877-267-4323; 362-9577; $$; right), artfully blending Scandinavian and Native American motifs, is a short walk from the base area. Expect comfy beds, hearty breakfasts, and attentive but unobtrusive innkeepers. The sauna and outdoor teak hot tub provide the perfect wind-down at day's end or simply lounge by the stone fireplace.

The funky, Swiss-chalet-style Red Shutter Inn (362-5131; $–$$), right in the ski area parking lot, has six rooms, an outdoor hot tub and cedar sauna. Multiday stays include breakfast and dinner served family-style.

In town, the full-service Prestige Mountain Resort (877-737-8443; $$$-$$$$) has deluxe guestrooms, suites, kitchenettes and theme suites. Formerly the Uplander Hotel, this newest addition to the Prestige Hotels & Resorts chain has undergone a complete renovation, including a new lobby, day spa, cappuccino bistro, sports bar, lounge and restaurant (see Dining).

The pet-friendly Thriftlodge (800-663-0203; 362-7364; $–$$$) is a bit out of the center of town, but has comfortable rooms, large outdoor hot tub, free shuttle to the mountain and free continental breakfast. The simple Rossland Motel (877-362-7218; 362-7218; $) has rooms with kitchens which are perfect for families.

Rossland also has a few B&Bs. Try Angela's B&B Guesthouse (362-7790; $–$$; left), with its witty and friendly hostess who is sometimes your personal mountain tour guide, or Black Bear B&B (877-362-3398; 362-3398; $$), one of Rossland's heritage homes with original rich woodwork and leaded stained-glass windows.

The Mountain Shadow Youth Hostel (888-393-7160; 362-7160; $) has rooms for C$20 a night. Most rooms are shared with five others but there are a couple of private rooms. Kitchen facilities are open to all.

Accommodations Legend (Cdn$): (double room) $$$$–$200+; $$$–$141–$200; $$–$81–$140; $–$80 and less.
