Group lessons: Two-hour lessons cost $40.

First-timer package: The learn-to-ski or -snowboard package including a two-hour lesson, beginner lift ticket and rental equipment costs $79. Snowboard lessons are through the highly respected Burton Learn To Ride program, which uses special snowboards to make learning easier.

Private lessons: For one person, $95 for one hour; $220 for three hours; $260 for four hours; $350 for all day. For up to five people, $145 for one hour; $300 for three hours; $450 for six hours. Ask about discounts for taking classes after 12:30 p.m. on non-holidays.

Special programs: Expedition: Kirkwood is a backcountry education program that offers a series of camps and clinics that cover all aspects of backcountry skiing and riding, from skiing steeps and variable snow conditions to safety and rescue. Other programs include clinics for women, the Women¹s Learn-to-Ride Center, the all-mountain day camps, parks and pipes, and tackling non-groomed terrain. Call for dates and prices.
