Keystone Resort, Summit County, Colorado

Lodging
(Area Code 970)

Keystone Central Reservations (800-427-8308) books lodging, air transportation, lift tickets and other needs. Keystone is mostly a condominium community but also has two hotels and a quaint bed and breakfast that formerly was a stagecoach stop in the 1800s. Room or condo rates start at about $120 per night. Kids ages 12 and younger stay free with their parents, provided minimum occupancy is met and maximum occupancy not exceeded. All room reservations come with the Adventure Passport, a booklet that gives entry to more than $300 worth of activities (see Other Activities).

The quaint Ski Tip Lodge ($–$$$$), which was a stagecoach stop in the late 1800s, is a near-perfect ski lodge. Rooms are rustic in the best sense of the word with true ski history, the dining room is elegant and the sitting room is warm and inviting. The Ski Tip Lodge rents rooms with breakfast included. Private rooms have baths while the dorm rooms share one. The rooms are small but comfortable and the food is outstanding. Don't plan on telephones, TVs or Internet access.

Keystone divides its lodging into seven "neighborhoods" and villages with access to a swimming pool or hot tub and are serviced by an excellent shuttlebus system. Generally, the closer the condo group is to the lifts, the nicer it is and the more interior amenities it has.

The main hub is the attractive River Run area (left), which is walking distance from the River Run Gondola. The condos are spacious and convenient to the slopes and surround the best shopping in Keystone. A variety of outdoor concerts and events rock the plaza in winter.

River Run is flanked by the neighborhoods of East Keystone, built around Ski Tip Lodge and North Keystone, where the Inn at Keystone is located. From this neighborhood in the center of the resort the views are spectacular.

Slopeside condos are truly ski-in/ski-out in the Mountain House Neighborhood, the second base area. The Chateaux d'Mont condos here are magnificent, luxurious and worth every penny. We strongly recommend trying to reserve one of these units.

To the west is Lakeside Village where shops, restaurants and the upscale Keystone Lodge (top photo) hug the shores of the small lake and ice rink that is the focal point. West Keystone, close to the Conference Center, is the gateway to Keystone, where townhouses, private homes and condos greet visitors. The beautiful Ranch neighborhood follows the Snake River up the mountain toward The Keystone Ranch (see Dining).

Keystone's platinum collection of lodging properties continues to define luxury. When guests stay at one of these upscale condos — Chateaux d'Mont, The Timbers or Lone Eagle — they receive free ski check, welcome gifts, fresh flowers, a complimentary bottle of wine, personal concierge and daily newspapers. Be sure to ask about this enhanced service if you're in the mood for pampering.

Scores of hotels, inns, motels and B&Bs can be found in Summit County. Many of these lodging options make access to the other Summit County resorts easier and almost all offer a savings over accommodation at the resort itself.

Accommodations Legend (double room): $$$$–$200+; $$$–$141–$200; $$–$81–$140; $–$80 and less
