At Deer Valley the lodging has a decidedly upscale style flavor—and tariffs to match. Even in the value season the least expensive starts at about $200 per night. Accommodations have the same high quality one finds at the resort itself. Much of it is slopeside. If it's in your budget, enjoy. If not, find less expensive lodging in Park City—only a short and frequent shuttlebus ride away.

Top dog is the Stein Eriksen Lodge (800-453-1302; 649-3700; $$$–$$$$; above right). Think of any luxury or service and you will no doubt find it—heated sidewalks between buildings, fireplaces in the rooms, fresh terrycloth robes, floor-to-ceiling windows. A $42-million expansion added 11 lavish condominiums and a conference center. The lodge also recently added a 4,340-square-foot, full-service spa that's open for both guests and the public.

Other places to stay on the mountain include the Stag Lodge Condominiums, The Chateaux at Silver Lake, The Lodges at Deer Valley, Black Diamond Lodge,Trail's End Lodge, Silver Lake Village and Snow Park, all with similar luxurious amenities and all bookable through the Deer Valley website ($$$$) Call reservations for individual property details. The Goldener Hirsch Inn (800-252-3373; 649-7770; $$$$; below left) offers the elegance and service of a top Austrian hotel at midmountain in Deer Valley.

The Pinnacle Condominiums ($$$$) have spacious and well-appointed interiors located near the bus stop. Closer to the lifts—actually ski-in/ski-out properties—are the Pine Inn ($$$$) and La Maçonnerie ($$$$). All units have private spas.

The most economical Deer Valley condos are the Snow Park ($$$) units, where a one-bedroom without hot tub is about $325 in the regular season.
