Deer Valley does not allow snowboarders on its mountain. If you want to learn to snowboard, go to Park City Mountain Resort or The Canyons.

Semi-private lessons: Semi-private Max 4 lessons, limited to four students, have replaced group lessons. A semi-private (all levels) costs $120 and lasts three hours

First-timer package: None. Take semi-private or private lessons.

Private lessons: Beginners get a one-hour lesson for $110 (up to two skiers). All other ability levels pay $130 for one hour, $395 for three hours, $610 all day (up to two skiers).

Special programs: Women and men have three-day clinics at certain times in the season for $430 (lift ticket extra). Mahre Training Center Camps are three-day and five-day camps held in December and January. Camps are taught by Deer Valley instructors, with some coaching from Olympic racers Steve and Phil Mahre. Call the resort for details, prices and reservations.

Racing: A race program called Medalist Challenge is held on the Race Course above Silver Lake Lodge, reachable by the Sterling or Wasatch Lifts. The cost is $10 for two runs and the daily chance to earn a medal. About once a week, Deer Valley's Ambassador of Skiing, Heidi Voelker, a three-time Olympian and 12-year veteran of the U.S. Ski Team, runs the course so you can compare your time to hers.
