Copper Mountain, Summit County, Colorado

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing (Area Code 970)

Through the activities center (968-2882), you can book overnight tours to Janet's Cabin, part of the 10th Mountain Division system, and a gentle ski tour with a four-course progressive meal; various women's clinics; the Backcountry Telemark Series; and other telemark camps.

SNOWSHOEING AND OTHER ACTIVITIES AT COPPER

Snowshoers will find 21 km. of unmaintained and unpatrolled trails meandering through the woods at Union Creek. Another spectacular ungroomed option is the bike path that runs through Copper Village west to Vail Pass. Go to the golf course if you want groomed trails. No day pass is necessary for snowshoeing unless you use a ski lift to access trails or backcountry routes. A free daily snowshoe tour in the Union Creek area includes a guide, snowshoes and poles. Sign up at the Guest Services Desk in the Copper One Lodge in The Village at Copper. The trip leaves at 10 a.m. and returns by 12:30 p.m.

See Breckenridge for other options, including the extensive network provided by Breckenridge Nordic Center, Gold Run Nordic Center and Frisco Nordic Center.
