Dining (Area code 603)
Unless
otherwise noted, the phone number for all restaurants listed is
278-1000. The opulent Dining Room at
the Mount
Washington Hotel ($$-$$$) provides a unique and grand setting for any meal complete with serenading orchestra, daily menus and an extensive wine list. The quality of meals here is extraordinary; enjoy them as part of an all-inclusive package or as individual gourmet offerings. Breakfast in the expansive dining room with Mt. Washington presiding outside the massive windows is an inspirational experience. Proper attire is required in the evenings (gentlemen, that means jackets). For a more intimate, century-old atmosphere, try the Bretton
Arms Dining Room ($$$$$), which is recommended for
its superb cuisine. For casual dining, head to Stickneys
($$) on the first floor of the Hotel for a nightly dinner buffet.
Another spot recommended
by locals for fine dining is Notchland Inn (800-866-6131;
374-6131; $$$$$) in Harts Location.
Down the mountain, only a
quarter-mile from the slopes, try Darby's Tavern ($$$) for pizza and subs. Fabyans
Station ($$$) is a good eatery in an old railroad
station. The Nordic Cafe ($$$) in the Bretton Woods
Nordic Center is also a good place for a quick meal. For cheap eats
try the AMCs Highland Center ($$$), which serves
a hot buffet breakfast, lunch and a multi-course all-you-can-eat
dinner, family style.
On the mountain, the Top
o' the Quad Restaurant ($$) serves casual lunches daily,
with views of Mount Washington's summit. On West Mountain, stop by the railway car at the top for BBQ ($) or look for the Sugar Shack at the top of Zephyr lift for a quick pick-me-up with maple syrup in snow. In the renovated base lodge,
theres the Slopeside
Restaurant and Lounge ($$$) on the second floor. Also
in the base lodge is Lucy
Crawfords Food Court ($$$), a typical base-lodge
cafeteria.
